The Mediterranean diet prevents diabetes and cardiovascular disease: fruit, nuts, cereals and olive oil
The so called Mediterranean diet also protects against diabetes, according to a study from the University of Navarra conducted by Miguel Angel Martínez González.
We knew that foods such as fruit, nuts, cereals and olive oil had beneficial effects to combat potential cardiovascular disease, but until now did not know its virtues in the field of a specific type of diabetes.
The study was done on healthy people, according to their dietary habits and food for a period of 8 years. Each person must complete a questionnaire on a regular basis. During the study, new cases of people with diabetes and found that those who followed the diet closely ran less risk of developing the disease.
The main foods included in the study were those that contained fiber and vegetable fat. This avoided the consumption of trans fatty acids and alcohol. The key element of the diet was olive oil for dressing and frying.
